Community associations abroad increasingly host shared ceremonies and substitute ingredients; several guests on this series cook entirely with diaspora-market substitutes.

Opinions differ — most contributors distinguish between respectful appreciation with context versus costume-style use stripped of meaning.

Many masquerades carry spiritual significance reserved for initiated community members; restrictions protect that meaning rather than gatekeep culture generally.
